The Green Mustache Clan

In the early afternoon yesterday, my family and I went downtown to watch the St. Patrick’s Day parade and to celebrate my dad’s birthday. We arrived just as the Shamrock 5k was finishing (we all decided that we were going to make an effort to sign up for the race next year!), so we walked around for a bit before the actual parade began.

Like our green mustaches? Jen had four leftover from previous St. Patrick’s Day festivities, so I let my siblings wear them until one was handed off to me.

Though Maryvale, the high school that I attended, wasn’t specifically represented in the parade, I did see the Baltimore Catholic Schools float pass by.

We stood in the sun as we watched the governor, old-fashioned cars, Irish dancers, and Baltimore-themed floats parade through the city streets.

By the late afternoon, we were all getting hungry, so we left the parade and walked through the Inner Harbor to get to our car.

We briefly stopped to watch a street performer, Evan Young, juggle fire torches, bowling balls, and swords all while balancing on an uneven skateboard. He was amazing and funny!

While we were walking, we spotted It’Sugar and we couldn’t possibly resist going into the candy shop. As true as the saying gets, we were like kids in a candy store. Every candy imaginable was jumbo-sized, but we decided that we probably didn’t need a five-pound box of sour gummy worms.

Eventually, we made our way to Canton Dockside to help our rumbling tummies.

I loved the soup, but unfortunately, I did not enjoy my meal. I ordered the shrimp melt, which did not come out very hot, and was rather lackluster. On the bright side, I had plenty of room for a special dessert: tiramisu gelato.

Before dropping Jen off at her house, we went to Vaccaro’s in Canton for a celebratory treat.

It was much better than my dinner!

Have you participated in any St. Patrick’s Day festivities yet?

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream/frozen yogurt/gelato?
