The Atlantic Resort and Spa

For safety reasons, I didn’t want to disclose where we were staying in Fort Lauderdale until we left the area. After asking for some recommendations from readers and friends, I ultimately chose The Atlantic Resort and Spa for our three-day stay.

I knew that I wanted to be as close to the beach as possible, so I looked for a hotel that was located on A1A, the state highway that runs along the Atlantic Ocean.

I booked our room only a few days prior to our arrival, so the availability was limited, but we were pleasantly surprised with our room. We were lucky enough to be given a top-floor suite with a balcony that had a great view of the ocean.

Our room was equipped with a kitchenette, which was not only convenient, but also luxurious. In addition to twice-a-day housekeeping, we were spoiled by having our dishes washed and put away for us (no dirty dishes while on vacation is truly a gift!).

We had a sumptuous bathroom with a large bathtub and an amazing shower.

For the majority of our time in Fort Lauderdale, Ali and I were tanning in chairs by the pool, which was situated on the fifth floor and overlooked the ocean.

A Samsung Galaxy tablet was provided in each room for its guests to use during their stay, which we thought was pretty neat. I brought my iPad with me so I didn’t have much of a need for it, other than using it as the TV remote and as a means of communication with the hotel staff (you could order room service, request more towels, etc. all with the touch of a button).

Overall, we were very happy with The Atlantic and its location. It was a short distance to plenty of restaurants and shops, yet  far enough away from the crowds. We had initially planned to stay at The Ritz Carlton, but after seeing that it was located next to the strip where most spring breakers congregate, we were glad that we decided otherwise. (I talked to the concierge at The Atlantic and he noted that the larger hotels tend to be less crowded in March in comparison to other high season months.)
