Boots with the Fur

These past couple of days have been surreal. I’m still trying to wrap my head around everything that has transpired; there is so much to say, yet no words seem appropriate. Instead of grasping for coherent thoughts to properly describe the situation, I’ll share some photos from the other night.

On Friday, I went to a holiday party with my friend Molly. Since Molly also had a work function that night, we planned on arriving late to our friend Lizzie’s party. I had enough spare time to bake a homemade batch of Andes mint cookies and take pictures for a fashion post!

Taupe Wedge Booties: Steve Madden

I have been searching for the perfect pair of wedge booties for several months now—I finally found them when I went Christmas shopping the other day. I hadn’t planned on shopping for myself, but I couldn’t pass up a pair of Steve Madden booties, especially when they only had a 60 dollar price tag!

This outfit was incredibly comfortable and warm—the temperatures in Baltimore are finally cold enough for me to wear my faux-fur vest! While at the party, I met a girl, Sarah, who complimented me on my vest, but admitted that she didn’t think she could pull it off. I reassured her that anyone can wear anything; all you need is confidence.

Ironically, as I was leaving the party, some d-bags who stayed upstairs the entire time guys made several snide comments regarding my outfit. The leader of the pack asked what kind of animal I killed to make my vest. While I refrained from name-calling, I certainly did not let him insult me in front of his little minions. Rather, I remained poised and simply responded by smugly saying “It’s faux,” as I walked out the door.

What did you do this weekend? Attend any holiday parties?

Do you let others dictate your clothing choices?

How would you have handled the situation with the immature boys?

  1. Ugh- that guy from the party reminds me of a boy I went to school with. I bet it was him 😉 ….. I would have wanted to say “Didn’t your mom teach you- If you can’t say anything nice. Don’t say anything at all. Shhhhhh.”
I would have been rather ticked, can’t lie. It would have gotten to me. Bummer.

  2. I hate when people are rude like that. It really irks me, and I always spend time wondering where that mean spiritedness comes from. It’s hard for me to believe that people can purposely can be so rude for absolutely no reason at all. What’s in it for them?!

I think you handled the situation well 🙂

This weekend I celebrated my gpa’s 80th birthday, decorated with Christmas decorations, played some holiday music, and went to dinner w/ family. Really fun!

  3. Immature boys are the WORST. Ugh. I have a tendency to challenge ignorant people (not always a good idea), so I would have asked him for more styling advice, since he clearly loves fashion so much. It must be one of his favorite hobbies–I have found that embarrassing boys is often the best way to get even, especially in front of his little group of vagabonds.

Anyway, you look adorable and I am coveting your booties–SO cute!

  4. Hey! I love your blog (I went to JHU and just graduated in May so all of your posts make me miss Baltimore in a weird way haha)! If you don’t mind me asking what size did you get in the pixie pants? We look like we’re about the same size and I am going to be ordering them online and I’m unsure what size to get.

I think you handled the situation really well! Guys can be so immature, especially when in packs where they have to feel they have to prove one another to each other.

    • Thanks, Angie! I’m glad you like it! I have a size 2 in the pixie pants. They have a bit of stretch to them, but I’ve found that they are generally true to size. They zip up in the back, so the size also depends on your body type. I hope this helps!

You’re so right–guys feel the need to “act cool.” The funny thing is that they are all several years older than me!

  5. I had a Christmas party from my boyfriend’s work over the weekend. It was a huge event with over 600 people there and it was absolutely gorgeous. Luckily there was no rudeness and negativity at my party. Those guys were huge jerks and you handled it really well. I probably would’ve answered with a mean remark, a few come to mind, but I’ll spare you

  6. You have a really good attitude! They were only looking for a reaction first from you, and then from their loser buddies.

I am trying to develop a thicker skin (work in progress) but when I was in highschool that kind of thing would probably make me never wear a certain item again.

    Love the confidence!

  7. My holiday parties start this Friday and I can’t wait!

    Love love love that vest!

I prefer to not let other’s get to me about what I want to wear .. it’s my body and my choice. And immature boys … they are every where … I’ve learned to ignore them 😉 Well, I try my hardest.
