Nordstrom Sale Lunatic

My older sister, Jen, is obsessed with finding a good deal. Though we have many similarities, we are quite different in that aspect. I don’t frivolously spend money, but I can justify an expensive watch (white ceramic! Michael Kors!). Jen, on the other hand, would rather buy twenty inexpensive watches for the same amount of money. Don’t get me wrong, I do love a great sale. Speaking of watches and sales…I went a little crazy this morning.

Nordstrom is currently hosting their half-yearly sale for women and kids. Normally, I am banging down their doors at 8:59am with a hot cup of tea in one hand and a list of “must buys” in the other. However, I was up until midnight last night baking a batch of brownies for my brother who forgot to mention that he needed to bring in a treat today for a class party. Since Natalie and I shopped a bit yesterday, I didn’t want to spend time at the mall again this morning. I haven’t missed one of their sales in years—my freshman year of college, I skipped Biology 201, borrowed my pledge sister’s car, drove to Nordstrom, bought as much as I could in thirty minutes, then made it to French class (wearing my new leather boots, no less) just in time for an exam. I am a lunatic.

Instead of being that crazy shopper who power walks through the store just to get to the shoe section first, I resorted to shopping online. I was hoping to find a new handbag, but I instead somehow ended up purchasing four new watches and a pair of shoes. Technically, one of the watches is a gift, so that’s not so bad, right??

Being the savvy shopper that she is, Jen came across this awesome list of companies that offer a discount to students. I was aware that a few of these stores participated in the program, but I definitely didn’t know that places like Subway gave students a discount. By the way, most stores will honor the promotion with a valid student ID, even if you are a few years out of college.

Are you a splurger or a spender? Do you obsess about finding a good deal?

Do you shop Nordstrom’s sales? Get anything good this year?

Do you have any stores to add to the list that offer student discounts?

  1. Ahhhh Nordstrom. My favorite place on the planet. I’m obsessed with the Anniversary sale, but not as big on the Half-Yearlys. That being said there’s definitely a pair of Stuart Weitzman booties and a Nanette Lepore dress that just went on sale that I’ve been eyeing! 🙂

  2. I totally use my Grad School ID for discounts. I feel less guilty because it does take some people 10 years to get their PhD!

  3. Why oh why did you have to post about the Nordstrom sale???!!! The closest one to me is an hour away…and I can’t online shop right now due to my personal 3-month ban! Needless to say I’ve created a wishlist and sent along to my mom and dad in hopes they will online pick up some of the things I’m eying!

I am a total bargain shopper. I love brand name and high end things but I hardly ever buy something unless there’s a sale or a coupon to go along with it!

  4. Ah! I love those watches! I’ve been looking around for a new watch for graduation, and my top choice right now is the silver/gold Michael Kors. Do you have any other suggestions? I’m looking for one that has both gold and silver so I can wear it with more. 🙂

    • You really can’t go wrong with the Michael Kors watches. They are crafted so well and I always get compliments on them. I suggest going with the one that stands out the most to you. The very first Michael Kors watch that I bought was silver, thinking that it would be the best choice and match with more. However, after buying a gold watch, I’ve realized that I wear that one so much more frequently. Besides, you can easily mix and match your gold and silver jewelry!

  5. I miss living by Nordie’s! I did not appreciate it to the degree that I should have! I am a total mix of splurger/deal seeker. There are some things that are worth splurging on (Amazing shoes and timeless wardrobe staples) and other things that I just want to buy when there is a good deal (super trendy clothes that won’t be in style next year…).

This post makes me so excited that I am going shopping this weekend!

  6. I normally only buy some key pieces that are high quality instead of a lot of inexpensive things. People think I’m crazy to spend so much money on something like a purse but if I stick to timeless styles, I get so much use out of them!

I love Nordstrom! It is so nice to shop in the store and the staff is always so friendly. They have a fantastic return policy too. I literally die every time I walk into that store. My husband, on the other hand, has an entirely different opinion of the store hehe
