Heidi Klum. Lindsay Lohan. Sally Anne.

Yet again, today was unreal. The insanity was actually exciting, rather than overwhelming and unmanageable. Project Runway? Amazing. Heidi Klum? Stunning. Lindsay Lohan? Strange (but was wearing an incredible pair of shoes). I could go on forever.

It’s now 1:40am so I basically can’t think, but I have a great guest post! I love Sally Anne’s blog because I almost always learn something after reading a post, like that Reese Witherspoon was hit by a car?! Be sure to check out her blog!

Hi! I am Sally Anne, also known as PaleoRunnerGirl.

I LOVE Jimmy Choos on the Treadmill and am always sure to take detailed notes of the glorious fashion tips from Colleen!

I have very little fashion expertise, so for my guest post, I thought I would tell you a bit about my life as a Paleo eater, and give you a delicious recipe!

I have been a vegetarian for many years but just recently drank the “Paleo” Kool-Aid. After reading many books and articles, I decided to give it a go! I have battled IBS and a whole host of intestinal issues over the past 5 years. I have tried every medication known to man, as well as a Gluten free diet. However, it has not been until now,  after removing dairy, gluten, and legumes–and adding back meat, have I finally found relief–YAY! Hello Mr. Cow, it is time to become BFF’s. I plan to continue running and loving life as a Paleo cave girl! 🙂 I run around 50 miles a week and so far the Paleo diet has been fueling me quite well. While this way of eating may not be the right fit for everyone, who doesn’t need more fruits, veggies, and unprocessed food!

Here are the list of things I get to eat, enjoy, and thrive off of:

Vegetables (any and all!)

Sweet Potatoes (They are my favorite!)

Fruit (My favorites are jazz apples, strawberries, and tomatoes)

Lean, grass-fed meat

Free Range poultry

Seafood (I actually am deathly allergic, but other Paleo’s love the fishies)

Almonds, Cashews, Pecans, Pistachios, Hazelnuts (Almonds/Almond butter are my favorite)

Coconut! (Coconut milk, coconut oil, coconut butter, coconut flakes, etc!)

Avocados/Olives/Olive Oil

And here are the items I avoid:

Artificial sugars (Good-bye Diet Pepsi and aspartame-laced yogurt)
Legumes (After years of relying on beans and peanuts for protein, I have found that I am no longer bloated)
Dairy products (I thought this would be the hardest part–I was Chobani’s #1 Fan–but coconut milk is great!)

Corn or Corn products
High-Fructose Corn Syrup (Duh.)

Gluten (Wheat, Rye, Barley)

Sure, there are a few more things, but for now, this is a good start.
Honestly, it sounds like a lot, but for the first time in my life I do not have stomach aches every day. I do not wake up puffy, bloaty (yes, that is a word in my world), and uncomfortable. I have energy! I feel WELL! It is awesome.
In transitioning from vegetarianism to a Paleo style of eating, I started with lots of veggies, avocados, and fruits. I slowly added chicken and lean meats. It was not a terrifically challenging adjustment because I LOVE vegetables and avocados. Also, in eating humanely raised meat/poultry, I know that these animals were treated well. Plus, I get to support my local farms! Once I added meat back into my diet I was flabbergasted at my level of satiation. I am never hungry/unsatisfied. Long term Paleo peeps always mention how it is almost impossible to overeat on with this “eating style” and it is so true. I have been in many a “carb-comas” in my life–I have never eaten myself into a veggie or meat coma.

One thing I love about Paleo is that it is not all or nothing. It is not about restriction and deprivation. It is about filling your body with nutrients!

A wonderful autumnal Paleo treat is my Paleo Pumpkin Smoothie. Not only is it healthy, but it is YUMMY!

Paleo Pumpkin Smoothie

1 frozen banana

1 cup unsweetened coconut milk

½ tsp ground cinnamon

½ cup pumpkin (fresh or canned)

Garnish with coconut and cinnamon

1) Place everything in a blender and blend away (about 1 minute)

Please come visit me!

Thank you so much, Sally Anne! If I get a chance, I will be back to do a recap Saturday night, but I’m feeling that I have a long day ahead of me…

  1. Thanks for sharing, Sally Anne! My sister and I were just reading and decided that this post needs to be forwarded to our friend ASAP! She also battles with IBS and has similar problems, but no solution. I’m thinking your post is going to help :).

And Colleen– I was out last night when I received word of all your sightings… practically screamed in excitement for you!
