I’m Baaaack!

I’m baaaack! I feel like it has been forever since I last posted! I worked all day on Thursday and as soon as 5pm rolled around, I hit the road to meet Jen at her office so that we could drive to the beach together.

I fully intended to blog from the beach, and even typed up several blog posts, but the internet connection was horrible. Because there was such high traffic over the holiday weekend, the networks were working extremely slow, thus causing me to unplug from all forms of technology. My Blackberry was barely functioning–imagine the horror! I’m going to do the best that I can to recap the weekend as it was a fun one.

Jen and I finally made it to the beach by 9:30pm on Thursday night (of course we had to make a pit stop at the outlets) and I couldn’t wait to crash on the sofa.  Jen’s friend, Jessica, arrived shortly after us, so we watched a few shows on television before turning in early.

When I woke up on Friday morning, I was fully expecting it to be at least 7:30am. Boy was I wrong! It was only 5:45am! Clearly, I did not need to be awake that early, so I gladly fell back asleep for another hour. My internal alarm clock was urging me to hop out of bed, and a filling breakfast sounded perfect. I tried to keep the pan-banging and utensil-clattering to a minimum, but I couldn’t do without my egg sandwich.

Once everyone was awake, we made a dash to the grocery store to beat the rush. If you haven’t noticed already, I’m a bit of a food snob. I will not go grocery shopping at Food Lion, so I convinced Jen to make the fifteen-minute drive to Harris Teeter in Delaware. I was able to buy everything there except for Almond Breeze, plus I already brought down a cooler filled with my necessities (Greek yogurt, cocoa powder, xanthan gum, natural peanut butter), so I didn’t have to buy much.

We were glad we went early, as the store was mobbed by the time we were leaving, at 9:30am. When we were back in Ocean City, everyone went their separate ways to get a workout in. Jen ran at Northside Park while Jessica ran along Coastal Highway. I forced Ali to take a stroll on the beach with me, but actually tricked her into doing intervals. Muahaha! 🙂

We completed a hard—and sweaty—four miles along the water. I look forward to running on the beach every summer because it works all of the muscles that I so diligently memorized in anatomy and physiology class in 11th grade–not like I remember them now.

The rest of the day was spent relaxing on the beach, soaking up some sun, and eating endless amounts of fresh fruit.

Check back later to hear about more of the weekend!
